In this section I learned what qualities and characteristics make up a good teacher as well as a good learner. As far as good teachers are concerned, I learned that good teachers need to be well balanced in the way in which they teach, not managing too much nor sitting back and only monitoring. Instead they need to be engaged with the students, sometimes up in front teaching, other times being the organizer or facilitator and still others participating, and prompting. The important characteristics of a good learner are willingness to learn, ideally a motivation or desire to learn, the ability to accept correction, and very importantly the ability to ask questions when unsure of something. Combining these two people, the good teacher and the good learner, we will have the ideal classroom setting where both the student and the teacher will share in the satisfaction of participating in the success of the student.

This was a pretty interesting unit. I personally already knew the process of the teacher-student relationship, but this unit put much more detail into it. I actually enjoyed knowing the simple breakdowns of the individual class types and teaching methods. Because of this, I will start to watch which teaching method I am using during my lessons. The relationship between student and teacher is very important. The teacher needs to be patient understanding and motivational in order to encourage the students to comprehend the English language to the fullest extent. As a 'model' the teacher needs to make sure they are well read and execute their lesson clear and concise. Although the lessons seem basic but the program managed to nicely categorize the fundamentals of a good teacher and a good learner. Furthermore, this portion of lessons provides valuable information as to how to get to know your students better, thus, to be a better teacher.

I have learned that an in-depth knowledge about the following roles as a Manager, Organizer, Assessor, Prompter, Model, Participant, Tutor, Facilitator and being an Obeserver during the lesson is valuable to become a good and an effective mentor. I have also learned that as a teacher, the age, culture, language level and motivation for learning must be highly given importance. After reading Unit One of this course, I feel excited to continue onto Unit Two. This unit introduced many aspects of teaching which I previously had not thought about. Even though I often take on the role of the learner it has never occurred to me the problems which can be caused in lessons due to simple things such as the behavior of the student, and also the teacher's approach to learning for example the differences between group activities and lecture Type talks. From this unit I have gathered lots about the role of the teacher and this has shown me how the character of a teacher can really make the learning experience worthwhile. Finally another thing which strikes me is that from unit 1, I have come to the realization of different techniques teachers throughout my school years have used in order to try keep my friends and myself interested despite some activities at the time appearing to us students as simple fun and laugh-about activities.

In this section we have learned the qualities of a good teacher (i.e. able to motivate and knowledge of English etc) and of a good student-learner (willingness to learn, listen and thing etc). The roles of a teacher (prompter, assessor etc) should be in line with what he actually tries to achieve in every lesson and activity but also should be used accordingly and vary depending on each lesson. In Unit 1 we have learned also the 3 main age groups of students (above 13, between 8-12 and below 7) and how each student in different group is motivated, acting during class and how a teacher should approach each student from each group. Finally we have learned the main levels of English language (from A1 to C2 as advanced) and the 6 categories of students knowledge starting from beginners to advanced students. The video clip was very useful for me to understand the characteristics of each levels. With the unit 1 text file, it was not clear for me to understand about the category of the learner's levels. However, after I watch the video clip, it became very clear because he showed me the tables with short explanation on each levels. It was interesting to know about the differences between the learner's ages because I never thought about it Before. Also, the video clip was very helpful for me to understand about the roles of teacher by examples. I believe that understanding about teacher's role is very important for me to be a good teacher. I enjoyed this content of the unit due to the basic information offered. I have not previously studied teaching and therefore benefited from going over the roles of a teacher and the differences in young and adult learners. The roles range from being a manager and facilitator where they introduce and oversee an activity to a participant where they are actively involved in the lesson. The experiences, motivation and behavior of students vary just as greatly as the teacher roles. Each individual student has their own needs that need to be meet by the teacher. Through understanding some of the difficulties faced by learners a teacher can begin to build a rapport with the student and help them to succeed. Although I have minimal teaching experience, most of the information I have read are basic and serve as a refresher to me. The most important thing I have learned are the different roles a teacher undertakes in a teaching environment. I didn't know there are many. I am familiar with the roles of a teacher as manager/controller, organizer and assessor but I have less appreciation for a teacher's role as prompter, participant, tutor and facilitator. Where I come from (the philippines) and during my student years, the teaching method was more of preaching and instructing than group dynamics and discussions.

Beyond the obvious stuff like a good teacher should have good knowledge of the subject matter etc. What I picked up the most was the importance for the teacher and students to connect on a real level to produce a good learning environment. That means the teacher knows his/her students and where they are coming from and with that knowledge, provides a comfortable yet motivational environment for his/her students. This unit has made me think more about the different abilities and behaviours students of different ages bring to the classroom. It has provided clarification for me that not all school aged students can be grouped together as young earners, and also provides information about difficulties that young learners may face at different ages. Some of these points were common sense, such as very young learners perhaps not having a grasp of their native language yet, but not having children of my own, or very much experience with 8 to 12 year olds, I did not know that they were quite self-absorbed. This is handy information to know, should I ever be teaching a class of children around that age. I now also have a clearer idea of the different levels of each learning. I think it would be easier for me now if I had to identify what level my students were at.

This section gave me a good overview of how to be a good teacher, the qualities and roles that I can apply. It was also interesting to understand the aspects of the learner and what differrentiates from one learner to another such as but not limited to age, culture and life experiences. This unit focuses on the relationship between students and teachers and ways to maximize that relationship. Teachers should be aware of the needs and experience levels of their students to be most efficient in imparting their knowledge of the English language. Students should be receptive and attentive as well as willing to practice this new skill. Due to having experience teaching English I have mostly learned from Unit 1 the different language levels. Also I have learned about the Common european Framework which will make evaluating what students need to know a much easier task.

I found this section to be very helpful as far as what job the teacher is supposed to take on. A teacher should know when to monitor the students, when to join in, when to allow the student to answer themselves, and many other tasks. It is important to motivate the students and not scare them off by constantly correcting them in a way that makes them feel unmotivated. This unit described the roles of the instructor and the types of learners. As a teacher, I am expected to be kind, loving, lively, and motivate, among others. I would describe myself as all of these and look forward to being able to teach others my knowledge of English. There are many types of learners and reasons why they may be in the class. There are many language levels, ranging from Basic to Advanced, and reasons why they are in the classroom. Many younger children are in class because their parents are forcing them to, while adults are trying to help career prospects or travel.

This Unit has demonstrated that there are particular characteristics of both Teachers and Learners, and how they act, respond, and think. I have learnt that there are many good ways to teach a class. Whether it be by means of being a Manager/Controller (In front and center gaining attention of the class) or a Prompter (gently encouraging the student along the course/activity-obviously in a manner that allows the student to work it out for themselves, thus gaining more confidence). I agree that a good learner should be able to have a desire to learn, to be willing to ask questions, and to accept criticism and error correction, which in some cultures could be inhibiting, but it is yet another signal for the educator to catch and use to their advantage for the students learning benefit.

I also learned what the qualities that affect the teacher/student relationship in a classroom may be, including the individual personalities of students that affect a classroom setting (age, life experiences, behavior problems, nerves, and motivation for learning a new language). A short overview was provided on the stages of learning a language. It is helpful to learn the different styles of managing a classroom, such as knowing when to encourage a student, when to take a step back and observe, how and when to correct a mistake, and understanding that you will encounter a variety of students during teaching and knowing how to handle the different situations that may arise.

I have learned the discrepancy between proficiency levels and the chief differences between adult and young learners. In addition, I learned the difference between the different styles of teaching and when are the most opportune moments to apply them. The cultural differences is something that I will sure to take into account. For example, asian students tend to be embarrassed in a loud classroom setting and Latin students are the exact opposite. I will keep these cultural sensitivities in mind when I am in these respective regions.

The unit examined the two elements of learning and the relationship between both. Beginning with the teacher, the lesson was that knowledge of the subject was only one element of a teacher. That knowledge is useless to the student unless it delivered to the student. The teacher must prepare him/herself to prepare the student to learn. As the farmer knows his seeds and the land, so too, the teacher must know his subject and the student. The adage is that when the student is ready the teacher will appear. The roles and qualities of a good teacher provide excellent examples of the varied nature of the position. Between facilitating, assessing, prompting and modelling the teacher really does become a 'jack of all trades' within the classroom, and in order to be successful in the position then one needs to be aware of just how many roles they need to fill. Likewise, in order to be a good teacher an individual needs to be aware of what makes a good learner, to identify within a class the students who need encouragement and motivation, and those who already possess it. The level of language experience a student holds will also impact the teacher, as obviously lessons will vary depending on the language skills of the students. On reflection of Unit 1, I believe it is important to understand the motivations and experiences of the students in order to be a successful teacher, however it is also highly critical to be aware of the different roles played by the teacher, and to align these roles correctly with students as needed.

21. This unit was about teachers and students. It taught us about different roles that a teacher can take on in a classroom, as well as the pros and cons of these roles. It also taught us about the different qualities of a good learner. In addition, the unit taught us some of the differences between adult learners and younger students, and it also gave a few additional pointers about respecting cultural difference in the classroom. Personally, I found it useful to see that some of my own experiences as a student of a foreign language are actually part of the adult learning experience, and so I now know to expect the same in my students. It was also good to be reassured that you can switch roles in the classroom rather than try to restrict to yourself to one teaching.

Additionally, this unit identified the language level framework established by the Council of Europe which guides the teacher in encouraging and fostering certain general characteristics which are perceived to be a 'good learner' despite the fact that all learners are affected by their age, culture, language level and motivation for learning.

Having worked through unit 1, I have learned about the many roles a teacher can have when teaching English. I found this very interesting because I didn?t realize there were so many. It appears that a good teacher will assume each role depending on the situation in a class. I hope to be able to switch between roles appropriately, as it was discussed in the lesson. I also think the discussion on the different types of learners what beneficial. I think by breaking it down between age group and then by the level of language learning, one can better assume what the learner will need as a student.

I learned the more specific and technical terms for the language learning levels which was interesting. Also I found the discussion about motivation and typical behavior divided by age group to be really enlightening and useful. This unit introduces what a good teacher and learner reflects and talk about their roles in the classroom. The content also covers the learner in different age ranges and the different levels of learners and cultures and what they encompass and finally it informs about some of the motivation of why the learners like to learn English. This unit was principally concerned with the fundamental elements encountered within the scope of teaching English as a second or foreign language. I believe i have gained a brief insight into some of the difficulties that may be encountered culturally when teaching students of different nationalities and beliefs.

Lesson One challenged and clarified a lot of information I knew, or thought I knew, about teachers, students, and teacher-student interactions. The unit really broke down the teacher-student divide and showed how great teachers are also great learners. They need to be flexible and attentive to their classroom. Great course! This unit, while a good overview, is a bit clunky when taken online. It's very dry and generally uninteresting. I imagine it is a good first day lesson in person. However, I found myself (even with all my enthusiasm for learning) drifting while taking this lesson online. To me most of this content is quite obvious. I realize for someone who hasn't spend an abundance of time in the classroom (as a student or teacher) this content would be edifying. However, from my point of view I am anxious to move on to other topics.

I have learned that to be a good teacher one has to be fair, have a good knowledge of the subject and be able to motivate students. I have also learned the roles of the teacher which are, manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, tutor, facilitator, model and monitor. different age group have different motivations, experiences and behavior those age groups rage from 2 to adults. It is also important to have some knowledge of the students' culture. Another point is that the teacher has to be aware of the different levels of students and their characteristics. 1 is starter, 2, Elementary, 3 Pr-intermediate, 4 intermediate, 5 upper intermediate. each of these level differ in experience and knowledge. the starter has no experience at all. Elementary is basic knowledge of subject and verb and basic vocabulary. Pr-intermediate should be able to discuss a range of topics but still makes basic errors. Intermediate should be able to discuss a range of topics and the upper intermediate will be fairly fluent but still some issues with accuracy.

If a teacher is not able to engage the learner on many levels and using various tools, the learning opportunity may be lost for the student. Holding the attention of a class for a long period of time if a teacher was to rely wholly on speaking at the front, this would be extremely taxing for the teacher.

I really enjoyed this lesson because it gave a broad yet insightful view of teachers and learners in the classroom. The first part was about teachers, including the characteristics of a good teacher and his/her varied roles. The second part was about learners, including the characteristics of a good learner, the differences between young learners and adults, the differences in language levels, and reasons for studying English. I have taught EFL for 1 year and so, Before starting this Unit I thought that I would know everything contained within it. However, while reading it I was surprised to learn very much. For example, I learned that a willingness to experiment with English is a characteristic of a good learner. I have noticed this in my job, but never explicated it. Also, I learned about the various roles of a teacher. While reading through the nine roles I realized that I have held each of those roles and certain points in my teaching career but never realized I was doing it. I never realized that I was switching between roles. After reading this Unit I think I will have a better time of recognizing what role is most suitable for a given situation and of effectively switching between roles.

I found that the combination of the video and the text file were very effective in getting the main topics of the lesson across clearly, and concisely. Though I was already aware of many of the topics covered in this unit, it was a good refresher, and I was interested in learning about the european scale that 'grades' a language users. As an american, I'm used to a different scale, that typically goes as follows: beginner -> pre-intermediate -> intermediate -> advanced, with there occasionally being a 'masters' level; oftentimes, 'pre-intermediate' melds with 'intermediate', and is just broken up into intermediate 1 & 2, or even beginners 1 & 2.

It was important for me to be reminded of the characteristics a good teacher should have and how they affect the way of teaching and the students understanding. I think some of these qualities (patience,kindness) will only improve with the teachning experience but it's necessary to keep their importance always in mind and be willing to work on yourself. There are different qualities that make a good teacher. Qualities that range from the personality of a teacher to the relationship between the teacher and the learner. Nevertheless, the teacher should care more about the learning of the students to ensure that each student gets the best learning experience from a class. In order for a teacher to be successful, he or she has a role to play which depends on the activity and what the teacher would like the students to achieve. Such roles include: manager, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, model and finally observer. It is important for teachers to not limit themselves to just one role. What makes a good learner can depend on the age, culture, language level and motivation for learning of the student. There are differences between the way an adult would learn in class as compared to a younger learner. Generally adults might be more willing to ask questions, think on his or her own, listen, accept error corrections, or just have more of a desire to learn. Younger learners can be more difficult to teach. Nevertheless, when teaching both adults and young learners, teachers should make lessons fun and interesting, varied and useful to keep student motivated to learn. I have learnt that I should not restrict myself in one way of teaching. Each student is different. Each student learns differently. Unit 1 has taught me the qualities of a good teacher and learner. I learnt that a teachers personality, for example being kind and patient, is just as important as having a good knowledge of the subject they are teaching. The qualities of a good learner seemed clear and I see that it is the teachers job to encourage these qualities, such as motivation, if the student is lacking it. Age of the students is also important to consider, I now know more about how age can effect learning styles and behavior of the students. The language levels are a way of gauging a students abilities and I found the evaluation of how teaching lower, mid and higher levels differ very interesting.

This unit helped to focus my mind on thinking about my student's point of view and what I can do as a teacher to be more receptive to their needs. The unit helped me think about specific things to have on my mind during a lesson (for example to remember to always be enthusiastic, even if I am not necessarily feeling that way). It also explained the importance of understanding what my student's level of English is and for me to be aware of that. Overall I found the unit to be a good course introduction.

The purpose of this lesson is to discuss the roles of a teacher, what makes a good teacher, and what makes a good student. The lesson also distinguishes the different levels of speaking abilities and assigns a Name and level number to each of those abilities. The lesson discusses the characteristics of different age groups and the challenges teaching each age group. I learned that each age group poses its own challenges and that as a teacher I will need to plan my lessons and teaching style around the age group's characteristics and emotional level.

The first thing I looked at was qualities and roles of a teacher. These covered the personality of the teacher and also the relationship between the teacher and the students. I think it is most important to motivate the students and the easiest way to do that is to be kind and understanding and help and want them to learn and to like being in the class. Having a good relationship is important too. If they don't like the teacher, it is a big excuse not to go to the class or want to be there. If the teacher doesn't want to be there or doesn't like teaching or is bored or annoyed then it is hard to get the students to want to be there and enjoy themselves. The mood of the teacher influences the mood of the students. The teacher should be a role model for the student in all ways, organised enthusiastic, helpful. Next was the qualities of a good learner and the things that influence the learner. Many things influence the learners. The major difference is between the adult learners and the younger learners. Adult learners are more motivated to learn and can concentrate for longer and take in more information. Younger learners are better at adapting to new ways of thinking so can understand new words easier. Younger students can be more confident because they are used to learning and making mistakes and will be more willing to try new things. I think it is important to understand the levels of language and find which level the student is at because it will determine the Speed they learn and also how interesting the lesson is. If you cover the same thing over again and don't give them new things then the lesson will be very boring. Overall I think this whole section described how to motivate the students and what you need to know to provide the best lessons you can. I never thought about personality as being attributes of a good teacher. I did think about how the relationship between students and teacher is very important. It was good to see an outline of some of the different motivations between various age groups. I would like to work more on my subject matter expertise because I think it is the second most important part of being an effective teacher. I also learned about about the different levels to rank students ability. I didn't know there was a general system already in place. I think that is useful especially when students might be coming from different schools. I do want to know if there is a general test that can help place students in a particular level.

I think the most important part of the first lesson was to lay the groundwork for a teacher-student environment, and it really did this well. It was great to get an idea of the different tactics one could use to entice interest and promote a healthy learning environment. It explains the basic framework of English language teaching and the various levels and stages of English abilities according to international standards. It went into details about the characteristics that are necessary for both effective learning and teaching, and also particularly focused on the various roles the teacher can play when educating their students. I personally learned the importance of both the student and teacher coming to class with the right attitude and characteristics in order for learning and progress to truly take place. The unit did a good job of outlining important factors when teaching English as a second language. For example, the importance of considering age in your approach to teaching. The unit about teachers and learners provided a broad framework for understanding the complex relationship between teachers and learners in the ESL classroom settings. It outlined the roles and responsibilities of both parties in creating an optimal, healthy learning environment for each level of learner. As a teaching assistant who works with at-risk youth, the majority being ESL students, this lesson helped me learn what the things I do on a daily basis are called. I was aware of the different roles I play as a teaching figure and that there are different types of English learners, but this told me what each of those types are called. I plan on using this information to help my ESL students more efficiently by presenting material to them at their respective learning levels. It will also make me more aware of what role I should employ as a teacher to maximize students' comprehension.

Also he needs to consider other factor such as: age, culture and motivation of the student. In this unit I learned that the relationship teacher-student is very important. Also it's important to have good rapport, to involve all students equally throughout the lesson and to know your student's weaknesses. Different roles teacher can have during the lesson depending on the situation and activity: manager/controller, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, resource/facilitator, model, observer/monitor. But successful learning process depends not only on teacher's approach, but also on learners' characteristics that teacher should encourage: a willingness to listen, to ask, to accept corrections, to experiment with the language, to analyze their own learning process. It's important to define difference between young learners and adult ones. They have different level of motivation, nervousness, language awareness, behavior problems and life experience. Also people of different cultures have different approaches to learning. I have learned that the higher the level, the less obvious will be the progress or more difficult to measure. Teacher should maintain or build learner's motivation taking into account peculiarities.

While reading and meditating on this unit I realized how much I did not know. As a native English speaker, I can understand how it may be difficult for someone of another language to have difficulties learning English. I knew already that there are many exceptions to the rule but I believe this unit helped open my eyes to even more exceptions. I also realize that many things just have to be memorized. I knew of course the nouns, pronouns, adjectives, adverbs, verbs, prepositional phrases, and conjunctions but I did not realize there were words that fell under the "superlative adjective"" or ""comparative adjective"" for example. This unit was definitely more challenging than the last. I had to study the material. It also helped that I have a knowledge of a foreign language which is spanish. I've learned the parts of speech in Spanish, and they are very similar to the ones in English. This unit explained the basic English grammatical components and their different types. It started with the essential components such as nouns, definite and indefinite articles and adjectives that describe them. Then it followed up with verbs in its four main forms and listed the most common verbs that do not follow these forms. It also detailed the use of adverbs and where to place them in a sentence and Gerunds and how they compare to verbs. Lastly, the unit listed the different pronouns (personal, possessive, reflective and relative) and the general categories of prepositions, conjunctions and how to use them in sentences.

I learnt about different parts of speech and what roles they have in a sentences and a bit about how to use them, e.g. listing adjectives. I had done a little of this Before because I have done some linguistics but it was good to revise and I learnt some things too. Overview: This unit was about basic parts of speech. It showed how each word in a sentence interacts with the others. Every word, some depending on how they are used in a given sentence, falls into its own category with its own rules. There are many exceptions to the rules of English grammar that students from other countries will find very difficult to understand and will just have to memorize. japanese language speakers, for instance, have a very difficult time understanding irregular verbs. They also have a difficult time with noun plurals (there are none in japanese) and articles (these are also not used in the Japanese language). What I learned: This was a great review of my past education in English grammar. This chapter helped me to remember, and to explain more clearly, the basic rules of English grammar.

It also pointed out areas that may cause more confusion for students and gave ideas as to how you could get the students using these difficult grammar rules. This unit gave me a really great refresher on all of the details of English grammar and sentence structure.

I felt that this section was not only a very good review of English Grammar not only to better prepare me for teaching students over seas but for my own personal knowledge. Even though I knew how to form and write sentences correctly, I didn't know why. I thought I had a good grasp of English grammer but I now realize I don't. I recognize when something is incorrect but Before covering this unit I would not be able to explain why. But unfortunatley for every rule there are many examples of word or situations that don't fit the rule. I found this unit to be very helpful. I Haven't been academically involved with the English language in quite a few years and was surprised how much I've forgotten of parts of speech. I'm sure I will refer back to these notes and the video when I have to prepare a unit in parts of speech at a school. Certainly a lot of grammar inserted for just the second unit of the program, a good way of setting the tone for upcoming units. I learned a great deal from this unit, even found out a couple of things that I have said grammatically wrong until now! Overall a well explained introduction of the english grammar system. This unit clearly explains how to teach grammar. It's easy to understand and the examples are there as a Guide through the whole unit. This makes grammar easy to understand and eases the idea of teaching english. Starting at a level zero for this unit is perfect since it's always nice to review what you already know.

I feel confuse when I reading modules but when I watching the videos it's help me to understand all. I learn a countable nouns is the things that can be counted like a dog and pen. An uncountable nouns is the things that can't be counted like water, music,etc. adjective are words that describe a noun. Verb is an action words. Gerunds is a ing words like playing. Conjunction is a two group of words that join together to make a sentence. Pronoun are words that can be replace to a nouns so that u can't repeat the nouns in a sentence.

Wow, I studied this unit for a long time. I know how to speak English well, but putting labels and names to all of the parts of speech was a little confusing. It is a lot to remember and I can already anticipate some of the confusion that my future students will I'll have when I begin teaching. I'm sure a lot of people don't realize how many rules and exceptions they're following just by speaking in simple sentences. But after reading and studying for about 4 hours I know I've got it down! The classification was only part of the content of this unit; I also had to remember the rules that govern use and placement of these parts of speech. It was review, but challenging.

There are many irregular verbs that do not follow strict conjugation rules. This unit emphasizes the importance of understanding the parts of speech and their use in a basic sentence structure. This unit is about grammar and the different parts of speech. It is not comprehensive but aims at summarizing the most commonly needed grammar points teachers will most likely present to their students throughout their teaching years. I particularly liked the examples provided for each grammatical topic and it sure was a useful review. This unit was an overview of parts of speech. It described different types of nouns, verbs , and adjectives. In addition, it described the functions of other parts of speech such as prepositions, conjunctions, and adverbs. From this unit, I have learned a plethora of grammar rules. I realized that words and sentences that came naturally to me, could simply be explained if taught correct. I knew what a noun, verb and adjective was but I learned much more beyond that. I learned about countable and uncountable nouns, and how with uncountable nouns you have to use the word ?much? instead of the word ?many? when describing the amounts. In terms of verbs, I learned that there was more just the simple verb but transitive and intransitive verbs. Transitive verbs are words where an object must follow after such as the word ?eat? while a intransitive verb stands alone, such as the word ?go.? There are so many grammar terms and rules I?ve learned in this unit including gerunds, prepositions, definitive articles etc.

This unit covers the basics of grammar. It reviews what I would consider to be the equivalent of 4th-6th grade grammar, covering some of the basics that we should know but tend to forget. For example, I had to write down that a gerund is the -ing version of a verb, and a past participle never ends in -ed. I'm glad I reviewed these basics!

Helping students dissect sentences into the parts of speech will help them understand better how to construct sentences the right way, starting with the understanding every sentence needs a subject and a verb, around which other words can help build detail into the sentence.

I learnt about the parts of speech. I know about articles, adverbs, adjectives, nouns, pronouns, verbs, objects, infinitives, gerunds, conjunctions, comparatives, superlatives, prepositions and their uses. It is clear to me how the speech is divided and what is what in a sentence and I know now some specific examples of each. English grammar is important as it helps us use the language correctly. All sentences have structure. Words have their proper place to ensure the sentence states what you want it to. After going through Unit 2 I have a much better understanding of the parts of speech. I feel that I am much better educated on the various parts and their uses. I now feel comfortable teaching about these to a student who has little to no knowledge of the subject matter.

This unit offered a review of basic English grammar, including parts of speech (nouns, verbs, adjectives, pronouns,etc) as well as simple uses and rules to remember. This unit helped give me a review of the basics of English grammar that will be helpful in teaching. For the most part, I learned these basics back in school, and had them refreshed when I taught previously.

Unit 2, Parts of Speech, allows an instructor to review and become familiar with grammar. The unit was essential in reviewing parts of speech such as: nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, articles, pronouns, gerunds, prepositions and conjunctions. With a solid knowledge of sentence structure I will be able to have the confidence needed to teach the information properly as well as win the confidence of my students.

In this unit we cover parts of speech. There is a lot of information condensed in to the chapter. Judging from the test, we are not expected to know the subtle and complex rule. The basics, noun, adjective, verb, adverb, pronouns, preposition, and conjunctions, I've learned about in the past. I've never head of "Gerunds""in my life. I also leaned that the English language has a lot of exceptions to the rule. What the point of having rules then? Also I have been saying ""an european Country"" for my whole life without know it's wrong. Auto correct doesn't seem to mind. Better get a grammar book for future reference."

I have learned quite a bit from this second unit. It has been a great refresher on my nouns, pronouns, countable/uncountable nouns, adjectives, comparative/superlative adjectives verbs, transitive/intransitive verbs, auxiliary verbs,definitive/in definitive/zero article, adverbs, gerunds, Prepositions/Conjunction. Overall it has refreshed quite a bit of my knowledge on the subject matters and feel confident in teaching this course material.

Growing up as a native English speaker, we don't really know all the terminology in studying English, and it makes it a lot more difficult than it seems to study all the different parts of speech. Growing up a majority of English speakers probably don't know what transitive and intransitive verbs are, or gerunds, or what definite and indefinite articles are. I think it's good to know our English language well if we are to call ourselves native speakers of the language.

This unit of parts of speech I have learned so many different parts of the rules, parts of the names I am familiar with and re-acquainting my self with the meanings, parts of the course I have not heard of Before as a native speaker of English ( gerund, particles etc )this is very common? this will be the biggest hurdle of knowledge because there are so many more examples and different word types to get familiar with? lots of extra research and learning of grammar. This unit has taught me about the rules of how to construct a simple sentence together? Verb, subject and object, it has taught me well but lots of practice is needed to be able to teach these with confidence ! the extras of prepositions, transitive and intransitive, all do have a meaning for me now !
