TEFL TESOL

About tefl/tesol

The English language has become a globally accepted language. As a result, having the ability to use the English language is rapidly becoming essential.

Currently, there is a growing aspiration and need to be able to converse in English. Subsequently, demand for qualified English teachers is increasing. The qualification required to teach English internationally is the tefl or tesol certification. This certificate enables you to use your English expertise while working anywhere in the world.

At ITTT our TEFL/tesol certification courses equip you with the required education and aptitude to become a successful teacher working in a location suited to you.

tefl and tesol Explained

This is certainly one of our most frequently asked questions. The meanings of these abbreviations can be somewhat complicated. Hopefully the definitions below will clear any confusion:

  • TEFL – (Teaching English as a Foreign Language): This term applies in countries where English is not the main language (for example teaching English to german people in germany).
  • TESL – (Teaching English as a Second Language): This term applies when English is being taught to a non-English speaker in a country where English is the main language (for example teaching people who have moved to the UK/Usa from a non-English speaking country).
  • tesol – (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages): This term combines the above two terms.
  • ELT – (English Language Teaching): This term is mostly utilised by UK organizations.

Note: Whether you study for a TESOL or TEFL certificate will not affect your future job prospects as employers do not generally make a distinction between the two qualifications.
