After learning the different types of learners and teachers as well as the roles of a teacher and how they affect the overall efficiency of learning within a classroom, I've begun to understand what roles suit me best. With a clear and concise Unit, I can see now the pros and cons of different age groups, learning levels, life experiences and even learning experiences. While I had my suspicions about certain aspects of teaching younger learners being harder than teaching adults, this unit helped to clarify the facts and set up mental notes about teaching both aspects. I now find myself feeling somewhat more comfortable teaching either age groups.

I have gained a better understanding of what it takes to be a good teacher, and how to spot a good learner. The most important qualities a good teacher should possess in my opinion are being able to motivate learners, being enthusiastic about teaching, being able to motivate their students, spotting student weaknesses and helping them with them, and also making the class entertaining. On the other side of the classroom... a good learner is a student who is asks questions, takes criticism well, is willing and ready to learn, and is able to access their own habits of learning. The roles teachers play in the classroom are varied and include managing, organizing, accessing, and prompting students. It also sometimes requires to step back from the spotlight and be a participant, or observe students.It is important that teachers are able to switch through these roles with students effortlessly.

Unit one was helpful to me in that it clarified clearly the qualities and roles of both teachers and learners. The list of roles that the teacher may play during the space of one class was especially helpful. I need to remind myself not to swing the pendulum too far to any one direction during my classes. I found the different language levels to be explained quite clearly as I find it a bit confusing at times. This unit also touches on the topic of the relationship between learners and teachers which I think is important to my future success as a teacher.

It also goes into details about the different levels of language acquisition and how to motivate these different levels of students.

degree is in Secondary Education, teaching English in 7th-12th grades. I found this section to have great insight into the other age groups that I'm less familiar with. How adult learners differ from the younger set in terms of motivation and life experiences and how that will effect lesson plans and course
work. In addition, it was a good refresher for me on what makes a good teacher and what makes a good learner. It really made me think how I will need to craft lesson plans differently based on skill level and motivation of my students. I'm looking forward to future units on how to handle a class that might have a mixed bag of skill levels and the challenges that will entail. Unit 1 refers to the different qualities, roles and responsibilities that both teachers and student should have in order to make sure that the quality of the learning process is adequate. Although in the past few years there has been a lot of focus on the subject of trying to transform our lessons into student-centred lessons instead of teacher-centred lessons, we should take into consideration that is not entirely possible, since there are some phases of the lessons that require a teacher-centred approach.
A teacher might have different roles during a typical lesson, such as: Controller, Organizer, Assessor, Prompter, Participant, Tutor, Facilitator, Model and Monitor. Each of these roles rely on the kind of activity that are going to perfom during our classes.
On the other side we have the learners. We need to explore all the motivations that a student might have to study English. Without any motivation we have less chance to succeed in our goal. The teacher needs to make sure that all the lessons are enjoyable, interesting, diverse and helpful to continue having that motivation.
Besides the motivation we should also take into consideration the cultural and first language differences. A good teacher should consider the customs and differences that could affect the classes.
In conclusion, one of the most important and complex matters regarding the success of English teaching is the relationship between teachers and learners. If we are excellent teachers, we will have excellent students.

I learned about the difference in attention spam between

It is important for an English teacher to realise the different roles he/she can play to facilitate and motivate the different groups of learners with different motivational level and behaviour. In a learning environment, it is very important for a teacher to be able to build rapport with his/her learners. This unit provides a coure-taker with a general view of the teacher-student relationship, along with a good picture of how a good teacher and student should be like. I found it very well organized and informative content, beside being a good start to begin the road of this course. Overall I enjoyed learning about the different types of learners based on age and motivation level. In addition it was important to learn the different levels of language level.

This unit gave a good overview and description of a good teacher and a good learner. It provided an interesting perspective of the different roles of a teacher and the different levels of learners. Unit 1 focused on the Roles of the teacher and the student. The unit provided insight into the delicate relationship between teacher and student, necessary to provide the best education. After unit 1, I am aware of the different roles I will take on as a teacher, and the different tasks each role entails. This unit details the roles a teacher plays in the education setting and what constitutes a good learner. It also details how to elicit the qualities of a good learner from a student. In this section i learned the labels used to describe the roles and methods i use everyday in the classroom.

Questions 15-19 were not covered in the lesson and I believe that makes it unfair to ask them on an exam. I am certified to teach in
Usa and need to adjust to the terminology. That is good because I am sure to run into that situation overseas while teaching. The Unit teaches us about the basic skills and requirements of a good teacher, in combination with different levels of students and how to approach each of them to get the best results. It covers the basics for any teacher on how to behave and how to handle a variety of students. Having been a teacher for a short while and now going through this unit made me visualize my experiences with different learners and in different class settings. I have learned more in detail about student centered teachings.

In this unit we covered the broad topic of teachers and learners, focusing on what makes a good teacher and a good learner and about the different levels of learners that teachers are likely to encounter in the classroom. There are many attributes that make a good teacher, however, a few key attributes include being able to motivate students, being able to correct students without causing offence or discouraging motivation, having a good subject knowledge, having the ability to establish good rapport with the class, and identifying students' weaknesses and providing individual assistance when necessary. We also learned there are many roles that a teacher will adopt in the classroom. One of these roles includes acting as a manager of the class to introduce new concepts and provide clarification to students. Teachers must also act as organisers when initiating activities, providing clear instructions for students and bringing the class back to focus to generate feedback. Teachers must act as an assessor in order to evaluate students' progress. Teachers will be required to act as a tutor when students are
working individually or in small groups in order to provide individual assistant to those who require it. Teachers must act as facilitators, setting out an activity for students to work independently to practice concepts they have just learned. While acting in these roles teachers must be aware of the learners level of English, whether they be beginning or false beginner learners, whether they are elementary learners with basic knowledge and short attention spans, whether they are pre-intermediate or intermediate students who are able to discuss a range of topics or whether they are intermediate students who have mastered a level of fluency but still have issues with accuracy. Teachers must also be aware of the learners motivation to learn the second language paying particular attention as to if their attendance has been an autonomous choice of if it is mandatory or if the learner is studying with the hopes of gaining residency or employment in an English speaking country.

Overall I have learned about the qualities that make a good teacher as well as different roles the teacher will play throughout the course. Even though there are several roles the teacher must take on, he/she must also be aware of the appropriate times and circumstances to take on those parts. I also learned about the different age groups of learners from very young
children all the way to adults, along with their different viewpoints, ways of thinking, and interactions in the class. Even though adults tend to be more motivated than teenagers, they come with a lot more life experience and fixed viewpoints, and thus may not want to conform to certain nuances of the teacher/class. Finally, I learned how to categorize learning levels from beginners who have no secondary language experience, to others who can discuss on some topics but still are not fluent, and even the upper intermediate group which is fairly fluent. This categorization will help me to see where each student's starting point is so I may accommodate the class to suite their needs accordingly.

This was a helpful section as I had to break down a sentence in english and really understand the meaning behind the placement of each word. I

There were some really good explanations for each part of speech and the basics entailed for each. However, I know things will only get more difficult and we reach deeper in to each/bring in the irregulars. Therefore, I have spent a good deal of time on this section to make sure the base-level is more than covered so it will be easier to dive deeper in the coming sections.

I learned the specifics of the parts of speech. The verbs are definitely the hardest, but they way they were explained was extremely helpful. Also, I was unaware of the two types of articles, and I learned something new about them through this lesson. I'm glad I'm not the only person that has trouble with grammer. I've always had challenges with using grammer and instead of remembering rules it was easier for me to remember how a sentence sounded. This unit was an excellent review of basic grammar. Nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs, gerunds, prepositions, articles, pronouns, and conjunctions were discussed. The rules for using each and the definitions of the roles of each part of speech were presented, including many of the types of each part of speech.
While I clearly remembered from previous study the definitions of noun, verb, adjective and adverb, some of the variations within these categories had been lost to me since my student days. I found the way that they were explained particularly useful, since the explanations and examples were basic and straightforward, exactly as they must be for new learners.
The refresher on Past and Present Participles was the most important section for me, as I recalled the least about these verb forms. I now feel I have a teachable mastery of the parts of speech.

This unit covered the basic grammar of the English language. It explained the function and basic rules concerning parts of speech like nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions. This unit refreshed my memory of the parts of speech used in the English language that, most of which I have not studied since I was in grade school. It is necessary for me to have a proper knowledge of these parts of speech if I am to properly teach students how to speak and write in English.

The individual forms of these English words were also discussed, such as gerunds, definite articles, and intransitive verbs. From this unit, I have had a refresher course on basic English grammar. It has also highlighted the manner in which English grammar should be taught as a second language.

A good review unit of the basic grammar of common language structure we use on daily basis. The whole grammatical system could seem confusing to any one trying to learn English, but the materials in the unit provides a solid foundation. I think that most of the 'rules' will become easier for the students as they learn and use English more each day.

I have to say it was very refreshing to brush up on my English grammar. Being an English speaker it is sometimes hard to relate a definition to a word in sentence; simply because I know how to use it. I felt that breaking down each example of the parts of a sentence gave me a better understanding of how to explain their function to someone. I was also able to correct some of my bad grammar habits.

I found out that I do know a lot of the basic forms of grammar. All form of nouns are easy if you know the english language. Verbs are action words and adjectives are description words.
Adverbs and conjunctions are a little bit more difficult. Over all I have a great understanding of the different kinds of words used in out language. I find it very interesting and the parts that I'm not familiar are interesting so I think I'll be able to teach them very easily with a little practice.

As a native English speaker although I use all the parts of speech correctly I had very limited knowledge of what the various parts re called and the rules surrounding their use. Native speakers lean a language gradually by osmosis and often unaware of the rules that they apply in everyday speech. I felt this unit covered a very wide yet necessary range of material on grammar. All of the examples that were provided were very helpful in recalling all of the parts of a sentence. I think it is very important to know the structure of a sentence very well for language learners and language teachers. From this unit, I was able to get a very refreshing review of English grammar.

This unit consisted mostly out of grammar and parts of speech that assisted me in knowing when to use which words and how to form a competent sentence that is easily relayed to a student. It also gave me a bit more insight into the adjective and comparative adjective. I feel I have taken away a much wider understanding of the entire grammar and speech module.

I found this too be a lot of information in once to grasp. But after
working through the test and also reading trough the unit I managed to understand the grammar better. It will take some extra studying and learning to sharpen my knowledge and skills to teach and see the mistakes in grammar. Unit 2 taught me about parts of speech ,what are nouns,verbs,adverbs,adjectives,pronouns and how they are used to form sentences. I learned of transitive verbs,adverbs countable and uncountable,regular and irregular verbs. I learned what are gerunds,pronouns-personal and possessive,conjunctions. I feel this will help me teach the proper use of speech to my students. This unit was a review of basic grammar. It focused on different parts of speech. I learned about each of the basic parts of speech and practiced identifying parts of speech in a sentence.

THE CONTENT OF TH?S UNIT IS ALL ABOUT PART OF SPEECH WHERE AS IN THE PART OF SPEECH I LENT OF THE FOLLOWING,COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVE, PROPER NOUN,PERSONAL PRONOUN, TRANSITIVE VERB, ADVERB OF FREQUENCY, PAST PARTICIPLE,GERUND, SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVE NOUN, VERB, INDEFINITE ARTICLE CONJUNCTION PREPOSITION UNCOUNTABLE NOUN NOUN AND DEFINITE ARTICLE In unit two (Parts of Speech) I learned what the different parts of a sentence are, and how they should be used. It was a good review for me. Unit two helped me recall several things that I had learned in high school, but have not thought about since. I look forward to teaching these skills in the future.

This unit covered the basic parts of speech- showing definitions, examples, and usage for each. I was reminded of a high school english class where the instructor had us use different colored highlighters and pens to diagram the parts of speech in at least one sentence of every paper or chapter of a book that we read. If I were teaching parts of speech, I may not ask the students to do this quite so often but I found the color-based diagram method easy to learn and implement.
