This unit provided a good introduction to the roles of the teacher and the learners in the classroom. It highlights the variety of roles the teacher must take and the importance of being flexible and able to change your role depending on the students and the task at hand. The unit provided a good insight into the stages of learning students progress through when learning English as a foreign language, and what they are generally capable of at each stage. I learnt the range of motivating factors influencing students and how they differ between adult and
young learners. I understand that it is very important to be enthusiastic and motivating in your teaching whilst remaining culturally sensitive. Most of all, I learnt that the primary role of the teacher is to care about the learning of the students above all else.

On the other hand, the learners should have a certain amount of motivation to undergo the process of learning. They should have a desire to learn and experiment with the new language . They should be keen on interacting with the teacher and should have an acceptance of error correction. However, there are some factors that can affect the learners' process of learning which the teacher should bear in mind and know how to deal with them. For example; age, learning experiences,cultural differences, learning level, life experience, behavior problems, nervousness and motivation. It is the teacher's role to know how to support and encourage the students to overcome any difficulties that may affect their learning process and help them build confidence and maintain motivation.
I have learned that the relationship between the teacher and the learners go through many stages and to be successful, the teacher has to master how to move from one role to another spontaneously according to each part of the lesson . Moreover, a good teacher is the one who can inspire, motivate and understand the needs of the students and therefore will definitely have good learners who will be willing to achieve their goal of learning English.

I have learnt that one approach will not suit all, there are many levels on both the teacher's side and the students side. Being aware of the students perception of you seems very important and to build rapport and an open/friendly environment early on is key. Choosing the right approach to lesson e.g. facilitator, manager, assessor etc will need to planned in advanced to make sure it has maximum effect.

Throughout this unit I have learned most of the requirements of being a good teacher. From the obvious criteria such as kindness, patience and understanding. To the more subtle aspects of teaching such as motivating students to become better learners and knowing which role to take in class and when. In my opinion one of the most crucial aspects of teaching is the student-teacher relationship, we need to make them comfortable in our presence so that they feel free to ask us questions and come to us for guidance, but we still need to maintain the authority of a manager so that we can effectively organize the class to form a conductive environment for every student. Another aspect is the cultural diversity, they may have different customs and approach certain activities in a different way than we do. We must ensure that we are gently urging them to explore unknown waters without overwhelming them with new foreign activities that might be intimidating for them. Teachers need to cultivate a self awareness so that the learners and ourselves may adapt to the class and
work together to make a comfortable and productive lesson.

The unit describes which attributes make a good teacher. It also introduces the different roles a teacher plays within the lesson. It gives an introduction to different types of student based on age and relative ability, and gives a description of common student motivations, characteristics, and behaviours.
What I learned most from this is that my role as a teacher is important in more ways than one. I need to be aware and adaptable at all times during my lesson whether or not I am playing an active role at the time. I also need to be aware of the effectiveness of my approach to a topic or the effectiveness of an activity by being aware of my students' needs, motivations, reactions, and feelings. In short; the more I care about what I am doing, and the more I care about my students, the more enjoyable the lesson will be for everyone.

I pick up from this unit the importance of the Teacher Student relationship in the class room setting and the issues that can and cannot arise within this setting. The information regarding what can be the difference between a good teacher and a bad teacher is quiet useful and eagerly picked upon. Teaching will have it's challenges EG: Motivation, attendance and cultural differences, however with the right teaching methods and patience most learning issues can be overcome. This is a good introduction to the sensitivities and different aspects to the classroom setting.

What I learnt most from this unit is the different aspects or descriptions of the teacher and when to be which aspect. I think that is very important as a good teacher needs to be encouraging and students should feel comfortable with them, but they should also be respected and not become too involved in activities, as that may lead to poor monitoring of the students.

This unit covered the traits of a good teacher and of motivated learners. It gave specific examples of a teacher's role in the classroom and how to motivate students and to always be aware of cultural differences that can lead to teacher and student failures. Some examples of positive teacher traits are: kind and patient, able to motivate students, build a positive rappor with students, have good content knowlege of the subject taught, manage the classroom effectively and moniter all of the students' progress equally.

It is nice to be able to understand the framework in which teaching is structured. I had an idea that teachers fulfilled a lot of roles, but I never realized just how many there are. While it is always important to be a good teacher, to use helpful and effective techniques in the classroom (such as taking on the role of Manager, Organiser, Assessor, Prompter, Participant, Tutor, Facilitator, Model, or even Observer), it is also important to encourage and motivate the students to be good learners. Whether they are first time language learners or even experienced learners, whether they are young
children or even adults, even which cultural background they come from, we should try to engage our classes knowing their strengths and weaknesses prior to the lesson. By encouraging the students, we can help motivate them, build up their courage so they won't be nervous, learn the cultural differences between us so that the learning experience will be easier to handle, and to assess their language level so we can be better prepared with the correct teaching material to help them learn. What I have learned from this unit is that we cannot base our teaching styles off of our personal experiences, as each culture is different and it is likely that we won't be teaching English to the same ages that we were taught it.

Throughout this unit, I reviewed the qualities of a good teacher, and what his or her role in the classroom is. All of them are really important if we as teachers want to succeed in our field. On the other hand, we have the learners. Without learners our
job would not be possible. There are many characteristics that describe good learners, for example, if they are able to ask questions, their desire to learn, and their acceptance of error correction, among others. Also, how being an adult or a young learner could interfere in the learning process, and how factors such as motivation, nervousness, and life experience could influence it. To conclude, it is important to mention that each learner has a level regarding the language. These levels start in beginner, intermediate and finishes in advanced learners. Getting to know your teaching qualities and roles, and your student?s background would ensure the success of the learning process.

Good teachers are patient, motivating, encouraging, knowledgeable, and are able to build relationships. Also they are required to take on many different roles as educators. Such roles might be facilitator, manager, assessor, prompter, or observer. Teachers rotate different roles as they change their teaching styles and diversify classroom activities. Such diversification is necessary as different factors in the classroom call for different teaching styles. Some students may be at a lower language level than others, cultural factors will influence learning styles, motivation and participation will vary, and the number and age of students will influence what activities are most appropriate.
Motivation is one factor the unit emphasized. This is because students' innate motivation as well as the teacher's ability to build motivation will strongly impact the amount of learning that takes place. Teachers can build motivation by being encouraging, picking appropriate curriculum, and understanding students' weaknesses and strengths. Students may be more innately motivated than others because it is their choice to be in class or because they have specific personal reasons for wanting to learn the language. Other factors influencing motivation are age, cultural differences, confidence, self-consciousness, and utility of the language being learned.
Lastly the unit covered different language levels using the labels: beginner, elementary, lower-intermediate, intermediate, upper-intermediate, and advanced. Good knowledge of these levels and the language abilities students possess in each level allows teachers to understand what material is appropriate for different students. This allows teachers to cater individually to students, allowing the curriculum to be developmentally appropriate and thus more beneficial and motivating.

Before I study
tesol I thought only young students have some prior learning experience. But now I disagree only young people students have some prior. Adult students usually study English more than ten years than young students. Naturally they have more life experience and they have a great attention span. As a teacher I want to teach them be gentle and encouraging while they studying. I will give them motivation. Also I will get rid of their anxiety about their study English. Having the opportunity to read and learn the parts of speech unit has left me with a lot of insights gained. First of all I now realize the importance of objectives when planning and teaching the parts of speech. Second, I learned the importance of being able to adapt the curriculum and make effective changes. If I would have taught the unit having only used the curriculum as it was with no adaptations I can honestly say that the students would not have met all of the objectives. I understand that it is my
job to figure out how I can adapt the lessons so that they will be more effective and beneficial for the students. Also, while making these adaptations I realize you need to keep the objectives in mind so that the lessons are focused on what the students really need to learn and understand. This section showed how complex the English grammar is, having many small details. Therefore the importance of understanding what we use in our speech and why it is used that way and matter.These are complex areas and some are simple, yet is very important to grasp all the ideas to teach the grammar effectively and precisely. I learned how a proper sentence must contain at least a subject and verb but will mostly always contain many other words that also have a meaning. It taught me the importance of identifying each word and why it is there.

This unit presented the basic parts of speech that make up the English language. It is difficult to provide a brief overview of this section, as it is a unit made up of many particulars. Essentially, the unit covered the various kinds of nouns, pronouns, adjectives, prepositions, verbs, conjunctions, and articles that I will have to teach in an ESL classroom. In addition to refreshing my memory with regard to a number of grammatical terms, I learned that I'll need to pay close attention to these basic building blocks of English grammar in order to be a successful ESL teacher.

This was a wonderful beginning to learning the parts of speech and English grammar! It is hard to believe how much of this I have forgotten since I learned it in high school several years ago - I definitely believe that people will absorb more from lessons when they know that they will eventually be teaching it! I do wish that ITTT offered an easier way to perform self-checks on the Task Sheets, I ended up finding several
online sites that provided free grammar and parts of speech quizzes. Glad that I am finally able to semi-confidently break down sentences and identify parts of speech.

This unit is an instruction to the English grammar as parts of speech. A grammar in its wide sense is the structure of a language. Each part of grammar has certain function within a sentence. I've also got a very useful advice that when giving students an example I should use at least 4-5 word sentences to be as clear as possible. Parts of speech may be very confusing since some words can be used as different parts of speech (for example 'a

This unit brought clarification to things that I now instinctively know. These are all things that i learned early in my eduction and now use every time I speak but do not think about. Parts of speech is actually something I worried about teaching. Going over this unit in such a manner relieved this fear and I feel more comfortable with the idea of teaching it.
