This unit, through the contrasting videos, really showed the importance of having a good attitude in the classroom. It was clearly infectious. It further demonstrated the effectiveness of following Straight Arrow Approach or a variety of it such as a boomerang etc. The first lesson lacked passion, organization and the students clearly felt intimidated and perhaps even uninterested. The second lesson “engaged†their attention, modeled the target grammar in creative ways and kept the students engaged in the whole lesson while effectively teaching the target material. Overall, it really highlighted the importance of demeanor and rapport and how effective using a form of ESA can be in the classroom.
