I learned a lot about the many roles of a teacher and when each role is appropriate during class sessions. I also learned how to identify a good student or learner. I was unaware originally what technical definitions there are on the levels of language fluency. I believe that the most helpful piece of information that I was previously unconcerned about was the sensitivity in correcting a potential student. I realize that it is important to take into consideration that if I correct someone in a way that is unsettling or too frequent, a student will lose motivation to ask questions in the future.

I have learnt about the importance of the student-teacher relationship. In addition to the diverse role I will have to play as a teacher in relation to my students and the class as a whole, I have also been taught to gauge the students, their motivations, and personal/cultural situations. Furthermore, the topic of most interest was the age range of students and the differences in their attitudes and motivations. Coming into the course, I have always imagined teaching what the lesson called the pre-puberty grouping which would be very motivated and positive. However there are also the post-puberty and the preschoolers groupings. Each group will requires different approaches which adds a whole new dimension to my future in tefl.

I think that this unit was helpful is learning what a teacher can generally expect in terms of experience and behavior of different age groups and different learning levels. Going into a classroom I will know that young children are more likely to take risks when learning English rather than teenagers who are more self-conscious. Also that the older one is, they may be more stubborn with their views of how a language should be taught.

The main lesson that I understood from this unit was while a teacher is to be concerned with his or her teaching, they are to be more concerned with whether or not the students are actually learning. The introductory material here is, to me, a good overview. I was generally aware of most of these concepts but it is good to have it summarised in a structured document. Discussing the various roles that a teacher can play is very important. Further on this is that some of these functions are planned and partly conducted outside the class time and during the class the teacher may alternate between several of these roles. The discussion on learners notes that the age of the learner has a big impact on the learners reception. It's my feeling that, regardless of age, it is important to pitch the learning at where the learner "is at"" and to make the material of some contextual relevance to them. Thats going to be hard in a class with a wide range of learner capabilities.

From this unit, it is clear that being a good teacher has just as much to do with building relationships and a safe learning environment as it does with having subject knowledge. Another interesting aspect of the unit was the insight on differences between young learners and adult learners and the differences in motivations (and thus teaching strategies) between the two groups. I have learned that I must think carefully not only about my lesson plans, but also about how I present myself to students as this will impact both their learning and my teaching.

Review, Unit 1: Teachers and Learners/Students. I have learnt in this first module what being a good teacher entails, also the different roles a teacher can take and how to understand your students. A good teacher needs to have the right mind set and motivation behind them so that they can properly teach. A good teacher must know how to effectively play different roles and know under which circumstances to use them. I must remember that not everybody is the same, every person is an individual and that there are many factors in their lives that contribute to how they learn. they are different age groups and different countries and cultures, I must take this all into account while teaching them because this can all impact their learning. Motivation: I learnt about what motivates learners and the different levels of English ability. There is different reasons why someone would be studying to learn English and the motivation behind them. the factors considered above greatly influences their motivation. There's different level of ability when learning English, from beginner to advanced and one should tailor their classes to match accordingly. I also learnt how I could be a better student and put into practice the partial advice I found in some of the accompanying materials.

This unit was a good introduction to the different views on teachers and students. I've learn't that there are many different roles a teacher may have to take on during a class. This unit has also given me an insight on the different student English levels I will come across. In this unit I learnt about the good qualities a teacher should have, the roles a teacher might adopt during the course of a lesson. I also learnt what makes a good student, how to recognize them, the difference in teaching to adults and young learners and students' personal factors that affect their behaviour. I believe from an introductory perspective it was good as the course has started out with the basics. I focused on the language levels the most as believe I received a basic understanding of the progression cycle. The rest of the content appeared to be common sense.

In this unit, I learned that the teacher has many different hats that she wears. She has to be able to prompt, facilitate, manage, assess and be a good model for her students. In doing so this provides her with more empathy and a greater feeling of overall accountability. Students on the other hand should respect these roles their teacher plays. And if they do so it will aid them in learning. They should also be made to feel comfortable and respected. One way this is accomplished is by teaching each student based on their personal academic level. When this is present they will take learning much more seriously, feel understood, and remain motivated, thus leading to more progression. So when both parties are responsible and respect their duties this leads to a better learning and teaching experience.

This unit is about teachers and learners. First it describes the qualities a good teacher should have. Also there's a brief overview what a good teacher is to do (or not to do) during the lesson. Then we find out qualities of a good learner. All learners are devided into two main groups: adults (from 18 y.o.) and young learners (from 2 to 18 y.o.) Young learners are devided into three subgroups (2-7, 8-13, 14-18 y.o.) And there're brief descriptions of each group and subgroup. Besides this unit explains the differences between levels of ability in the English language.

I have gained a greater appreciation for what it takes to become a successful teacher. I saw the perspective of learner which may come from different ages and abilities. I learned different methods to teach and facilitate the information to the learners. The unit comprised of detailing the qualities of a good teacher and a good learner. It also covers different roles the teacher plays in the classroom, different language levels, and the motives for a student to take an English language class. I have learnt from this unit what makes a good teacher and a good learner,about different roles of the teacher and which role good teacher use in different situation. I agree that good teacher cares more about his or her students than about his or her teaching. I also have learnt about ages of learners, advantages and disadvantages of each age, motivation, learning and life experience.I read also about different language levels.

The unit covers basic English grammar definitions and how to recognize them in a sentence. It covers nouns of various kinds, pronouns of various types, adjectives, verbs of various kinds, types of adverbs, kinds of articles, gerunds, 3 types of examples of prepositions and conjunctions. It gives a few examples of each. It was quite detailed in most areas and I found it required some extra study and practice.

In this second unit the focus has been made on parts of speech, a description and examples of nouns, adjectives, articles, verbs, adverbs, gerunds, pronouns, prepositions and conjunctions. I studied parts of speech at school but nonetheless I think that this unit was important to have an idea of how to teach parts of speech to students. I consider this a good refresher unit. Comfortably knowing the parts of speech will help me direct and prompt students when practicing even simple sentences or phrases. I believe learning English will be easier for students when they can take seemingly complicated sentences and see them for the simple parts of speech, making learning easier and faster. This unit explains in detail about the use of grammar in the English language!It touches the sentence structure and classification of words such as nouns, verbs, adjective etc and their respective roles within a sentence. It can be quite a challenging for non-native speakers to learn and master the required grammatical knowledge in English both for teachers and students.
