This unit discussed the past tenses (past simple, past continuous, past perfect, past perfect continuous), provided activities for each tense, and described common errors and/or difficulties that one might encounter in the classroom. This unit was laid out in an identical fashion to the present tenses unit. My reflection on this unit will resemble my reflection on the present tenses unit with one exception. Although I had forgotten much of the inner-workings of English grammar, followed the rules intuitively, and, therefore, learned much from this unit, I was able to internalize the information much more quickly than the present tenses unit because I had already familiarized myself with the simple, continuous, perfect, and continuous perfect forms of the present tenses. Once I knew those, it was easier to map the four forms over the past tenses. Further, many of the types of classroom activities and potential student errors/struggles overlapped with previous units. However, while I may have been able to progress easier through this unit, there was much to learn and review, especially concerning the usages for each of the tenses. This was particularly true for past perfect continuous. In contrast, I knew the past simple usages and the usages for past perfect and past continuous were easy to figure out. I've found the three units on grammar that I've encountered so far very helpful.
