In this unit a varity of topics were covered. First, level tests were discussed. This is a test for students to take prior to the beginning of the course in order to group them into their appropriate levels, and in turn making the classes easier to teach. The example level test was very useful as it gave an actual idea of what these kinds of test would consist if. Next was the topic of needs tests. This is more so for the benefit of the students but in turn helps the teacher to organise students inot their appropriate groups. This was useful as it showed that different students have different needs and outcomes they want from a business English course. Which again highlighted the fact that there is no one type of student. Also, the actual example shown benefitted me in seeing exactly how this kind of analysis is carried out. Following on from that was the discussion of syllabus design and structure. This was probably the most useful section as it allowed me to see almost a guideline or framework of how a syllabus can be planned and designed for the students. Then to finish, the course covered assessment and examinations as well as course feedback and questionnaires. There are a variety of different tests that can be given before, during and at the end of a course in order to achieve different things. I found this explanation of the different types of tests highly useful and interesting.
