Modal verbs are used to indicate modality - that is obligation, possibility, permission, ability and advice. Modals are: can, could, might, may, should, shall, ought to, will, would, must, have to go, have to, need to, needn't. There are two voices of verbs: active voice and the passive voice. In active voice, the subject performs the action, while in passive voice, the subject is acted upon by the verb. Passive voice is mostly used when the agent is unknown, not important or hide the doer of the action. There are 3 types of clauses: independent clause, dependent clause, and relative clause. Independent clause is a complete sentence. Dependent clause is not a complete sentence. While relative clause is a dependent clause that modifies a noun. Relative clause is introduced by relative pronouns: who, which, whose, whom, etc. Phrasal verbs, or multi-word verbs is an idiomatic phrase that have a verb and another element. There are 3 types of phrasal verbs: Type 1 - intransitive (cannot be followed by the direct object). Type 2 - Transitive separable (an object pronoun can only come between the verb and the particle). Type 3 - Transitive inseparable (the object phrase or object pronoun both come after the particle). I feel a little confused with the 3 types of phrasal verb. We mostly used this in our daily life conversation and it was easy because I am already used to say different phrasal verb.
