This unit briefly presented the three tenses of time and the four forms that make up the twelve tenses. Each time tense has four forms. The four present tenses were reviewed in this section. The form, usages, common student errors, and example Activate activities were given with each one. The present simple tense is used for sentences involving things like routines, directions, habitual actions around a point of time, and newspaper headlines. The present continuous tense is used for things like actions in progress, developing situations, and habits (usually with always). The present perfect is used for such actions like ones that occurred in the past in an indefinite time, actions that started in the past and are still ongoing, and actions that occurred in the past with present results. The present perfect continuous describes actions like those that were started in the past that are still ongoing and ones that involve a specific time period. This unit was a good indicator of how this course presents the tenses. Although the function of the different tenses are not exactly concrete, good examples were given that students could understand and use to form sentences. I learned in this unit about the present tenses and ways of explaining them to students. I learned how to correct mistakes and errors for the tenses and what activities are good to encourage students to use the tenses on their own.
