Unit 20 shows the most common problems teachers encounter in the classroom and present some ideas to deal with those difficulties. In a first lesson, teachers should not use textbooks, but try to establish rapport between themselves and the students, find out about the students' interests, needs, and the English level of each one. Warmers are exercises used to motivate the learners. Pictionary, hangman, tongue twisters are examples of warming activities. If a teacher comes across a class with different level students, the teacher can use the following strategies to deal with this problem: use different materials with the same theme, give the same material and different tasks, pair stronger students with the weaker ones or let the students judge their levels themselves. When teaching large classes, teachers can use worksheets, pair or group work, choral repetition, elect group leaders, and must speak clearly. During class, teachers should always speak English and encourage students to do the same. Activities that make reluctant students feel safe are pair work, role-play, controlled practice and use of tape recorder. When using listening texts, the teacher should pre-teach vocabulary that may cause difficulties. The last topic is advice about what to do with students who finish activities quickly: always bring extra activities to class and give them to the quicker students, this avoid them feel bored.
