In unit 10, we are provided with two video recordings of a teacher in action. In the first video, the teacher (Mark) demonstrates how poor planning, a lack of props, and an over emphasis on grammatical terminology can effectively render a lesson boring and confusing. In the second video, this same teacher shows how careful planning, props, and the use of gestures can make a lesson engaging and fun. In the first video, Mark spoke too quickly, repeated himself instead of rephrasing his questions, provided zero visuals or gestures, did not smile, and intimidated the students by telling them that everything was \"easy.\" Furthermore, when a student asked a question, he would sort of dismiss them, leading to them being discouraged and afraid to participate. This video was difficult to watch, and even more difficult for the students to experience. In contrast, the second video was impressive. This time around, Mark obviously put a great deal of thought and preparation into the lesson, beginning with familiar material to draw the students in, then slowly introducing the new concept \"can/can't\" until the students felt confident guessing in English out loud, even if their guess was wrong. It is always a good sign when a student is not afraid to make a mistake. From this lesson, I learned the importance of route repetition, which is something I have not previously used before. Overall I think watching both videos was very helpful.
