There are four present tenses in English grammar. They are: 1. Present Simple - Form: infinitive + ?s or ?es (3rd person singular); do/does + not + infinitive; do/does ? + infinitive? - Usage: general truths, habits, rules, routine actions, directions, instructions, newspaper headlines, comments, historical sequence, etc. 2. Present Continuous - Form: am/is/are + infinitive + -ing; am/is/are + not + infinitive + -ing; am/is/are ? + infinitive + -ing? - Usage: actions in progress at the time of speaking, developing actions, etc. 3. Present Perfect - Form: have/has (3rd person singular) + past participle; have/has + not + pp; have/has ? + pp? - Usage: past actions with present results - for, since 4. Present Perfect Continuous - Form: have/has (3rd person singular) + been + -ing, have/has + not been + -ing; have/has ? + been + -ing? - Usage: incomplete and ongoing activity, when we want to say how long it has continued Besides grammar rules, the Unit lists 1) common mistakes made by students, and 2) tasks and activities which can be used when teaching present tenses. I found the two as the most interesting and useful parts of the Unit because 1) now I know what to expect from students when it comes to making mistakes and 2) I got excellent ideas how to activate students when it comes to present tenses and in that way refresh often dull grammar classes (full of grammar rules and predictable tasks).
