This unit helps teachers to understand how lessons in different nature (focusing on: vocabulary/language use/ language functions) should be designed, combining with the different models of ESA (straight-arrow, boomerang and patchwork) learnt in previous unit. Also, it points out the factors how we determine vocabulary to be taught in class, and how we teach those vocabulary and grammar structure in order to make learners have thorough understanding about the topic. This unit has reminded me again the importance of a carefully designed lesson plan before lesson, especially in teaching vocabulary. Apparently, teachers own a wider vocabulary bank than learners, we are reminded to put ourselves into learners' place and choose suitable words taught in accord to their level. Also, to consolidate what learners learn during class, I also think effective activities should be carried out during study and activate stage. For example, in language structure class, instead of asking students to complete gap-filling blindly in a particular tense, a warm-up in the tense structure followed by a more challenging mixed tense including tenses taught in previous lessons (e.g past simple VS past continuous) should be given out for students' practice. In this way, students can consolidate what they have learnt in the current lesson plus recalling those they have learnt previously. Activities for each stage of studying phase should be picked carefully.
