This unit has structured several theories, methods of teaching, and techniques. The theories that are described vary from, according to the text, those that prove to be affective to those that are not are not used as much anymore. I would say the the Lexical approach would be more applicable to courses where the students are more interested in the culture as well as the English language for the purpose of understanding how English is usually applied in a real life situation. Engage, Study, and Activate is broken down to how the teacher and the students should engage in each stage of the class. It describes how the teacher's involvement should be reduced to a minimum in most cases and that the teacher correcting the student immediately should be the last point of helping the class understand the error. I find that is important, as the text states, that the students should be encouraged to speak English at all times. Sometimes the classroom environment is the only place to positively learn how to speak and apply the fundamentals of the English language. Several in class activities are introduced to prepare the teacher how these activities will encourage and stimulate the students during each stage of the class. Each activity serves a purpose to prepare for the following stage. It is also important to note that the Engage, Study, and Activate process is not set in stone and that the lesson could vary as long as the class begins in engage and ends in activate.
