Studying this unit has given me a lot of useful information. The content was clear and thought me what it means to be a good teacher. It reminded me some important qualities that I should manifest to be a good teacher. I should be always patient, have good subject knowledge. Then I should be a good observer because then I'm able to see what the students are for example struggling with, what they don't understand etc. Also it's extremely important to be kind, motivate learners, to be a good organizer. Then the lessons will be beneficial for them. I should treat my students as equals and I should not just observe the class but also be part of it. I should never forget to give them feedback so they will stay motivated. The unit thought me what a good learner is supposed to look like. He should have a desire to learn, be willing to listen to the language, he should ask if he's not sure about something and he should be able to accept a correction. I learned what are some age categories of learners that there is some difference between young learners and adults. And what categories might be more difficult to teach. There are 3 categories of young learners. Early teen - often unmotivated, somethimes unwilling to learn the language. 13-plus old. Pre-puberty - \"easier\" to teach, 8-12 old. Pre-schoolers- aged 7-less, often willing to learn the language, capable to learn some easier parts of the grammar and the language. I can play some English games with them, sing, draw etc.. Adult learners usually have some previous learning experience. Unit 1 has thought me some useful information when it comes to motivation of adult learners, nervousness, language awareness, their life experience. I'm also able to lead a discussion about things they're interested in because then it can keep then motivated. When it comes to culture and first language, different cultures usually have different approaches to learning. Students from Asian countries have for example different approach to learning than Latin American students. There are different levels of the language. We have beginners who either don't have any knowledge of English or a very basic. Then we have elementary students that are ale to communicate on simple topics and use basic phrases. This level is followed by intermediate which means there are students who already understand and can communicate but still lack general fluency. Then there is intermediate- the students are able to understand and talk about more topics but they are still lacking some fluency. Upper- intermediate students are able to communicate on almost all topics but there still is some lack of accuracy. And finally advanced students have a very good knowledge of the English language. There are many reasons why students are motivated to learn English. Sometimes it's for travel purposes, they might want to improve grades at school, to study or work in an English speaking country or they might be just interested in languages. There can be however many other reasons why they wish to learn the language. Whatever the reason is, the teacher is the one who should help them to learn it. And he can only teach them correctly if he is a good teacher. Hence t's important to follow the steps mentioned in this unit so the learners stay motivated and want to continue learning.
