What I learnt from unit 17 is about modals auxiliary verbs, phrasal verbs and passive voice. Modals auxiliary verb is used to express a number of different ideas, such as: obligation, deduction, offer, prediction, promise, request, possibility, permission, ability and advice. It is easy to use because it is only one form and never change form in tenses. For example are: may, might, must, need to, have to, shall, should, can, could, will, would. As the lesson preparation, I have to teach my students in better use and understanding of the auxiliary verb into the sentence. Because some students might confused and make a mistake in choosing the correct word. For example: 1. You can run fast. 2. You could run faster when I was a child. On the first sentence (can) is describe about the ability to drive, but second sentence (could) is describe as a past ability. For the activate phase ideas, I could do role-play for shopping in the store, where the interaction show that the manager some suggestion to buy the shirt. The second thing that I learnt from this unit is about the use of active and passive voice. Active voice is describe as if the subject is the doer of the action, then the object is the receiver of the action. For example: Jackie has cleaned the dining room. But in the passive voice, the agent is much less important or doesn?t appear. In order to recognize that sentence is in passive voice, students should recognize of using these keyword: be, is/are/A, will be, was/were, had/have/has been and being. The form of the sentence might be look like: Subject (receiver of action) + auxiliary verb + past participle (action) + by (doer of action). For example: The dining room has been cleaned by Jackie. In order for the students to gain understanding of using active or passive voice, I will using the engage phase by asking students about pictures of sports, animals or hobbies and then asking relevant sentence in active voice first and then convert to passive voice. The other thing that I learnt from unit 18 is relative clauses is about a group of words containing a subject and verbs. There are three categories of clauses: first is independent clause (complete sentence), second is dependent clause (not a complete sentence and must be connected to an independent clause), and third is relative clause (defining -essential to the meaning, and non defining - not essential to the meaning of the sentence). The last thing that learnt and most difficult material to absorb is about learning the phrasal verbs which is a combination between verb plus one or two particles (maybe a preposition and/or an adverb). There are three basic types of phrasal verbs: first is type 1- intransitive (no object). For example: Lets go on to the next chapter. (go on mean continue) Second is type 2- transitive separable (has direct object). For example: The teacher like to point out about the grammar sentence. (Point out is mean to show details about the grammar). Third is type 3- the transitive inseparable (the phrasal verb that carries the ?verb? meaning - idiom). For example: He got in the best university in the province. (got in mean accepted). In conclusion, teacher need to find out from the students perspective about their hard time to understand it; how to use in the correct structure and using them in the correct context. Hopefully, they could try to use this context naturally and become familiar in daily use.
