In Unit 9 the importance of writing lesson plans and how to structure one was discussed. It was stressed that there is not right way or wrong way and it is up to the individual teacher on how to go about structuring their lessons. Some important points made as to why having a lesson plan structured for your class was that the lessons will help teachers set goals not only for themselves but for the students as well. It will allow you to keep record of what the class has done as well as help the teacher to focus on the stages of learning for their students. Knowing how the students are progressing will allow the teacher to adjust to the students learning curve accordingly. In order to implement your lesson plan effectively the teacher must be organised. The teacher should include in their lesson plan their objectives for what they would like their students to have learned by the end of the lesson. The teacher should also be mindful of problems that may arise and where they can improve for future lessons. The teacher should also plan effectively the time it will take to complete the lessons. It was expressed that this is one of the hardest parts for inexperienced teachers to plan for. Lessons should also be linked to each other and reviewed to ensure that the students are retaining the new language. I think the most important thing learned, outside of being organized, is that the lessons should keep the attention of the students so that they are enthusiastic about learning.
