The lesson covers the necessary steps in teaching receptive skills. Receptive skills are reading and listening in contrast to productive skills which are writing and speaking. Reading and listening are equally necessary for a student to learn so there are things that we need to know when dealing with each. We as teachers should teach many aspects of receptive skills like for example predictive skills which is predicting the content from the headline or topic name. Other aspect is Scanning of specific information which means finding specific information in a big piece of text. Other is skimming which is understanding a text or speech without focusing on every single word for general understanding. All these skills are important for the students as they will get in touch with different ways of communication and they will need to know how to deal and understand them in a fast and easy way. And at the end we as teachers should prepare material tailored towards the students interests and level of understanding and help them get more motivated by trying to preteach some difficult vocabulary from the text or use other methods.
