Unit 15 covered evaluation and testing. The unit covered several different types of tests, and when it may be appropriate to use each type. Placement tests are used to place students at the proper level and class. Progress tests are used periodically to determine what students have learned during the class. Diagnostic tests are given at the beginning of a course to determine what students know. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests, but more extensive. Practice tests help students prepare for external exams. Some external exams are TOEFL, IELTS, and TOEIC. Cambridge Assessment has three exams -- the KET, the PET, and the FCE. There is also the ESOL Skills for Life for people moving to the UK.
