There are various schools of thought with regards to lesson planning; some people believed lessons should be flexible and not be planned as it forms a too rigid structure for lessons. In reality it depends on the level of the teacher. It is very difficult for an inexperienced teacher to be too flexible and lesson planning becomes more important for them. Actual lesson planning in practice, therefore, lies between the two extremes. Writing a lesson plan has the following functions: 1) an aid for planning 2) a working document 3) a record. A good teacher will want to monitor the progress and success/failure of lessons and will use a self evaluation form to do so.
