I had never heard of authentic and non-authentic passages before, but I have experienced them. In fact, I was just teaching a Chinese class today and realized that some of the things I was teaching were barely used by Chinese people as a greeting, but since it is the best way to make sense of the small vocabulary they have, we teach this greeting first. Besides, people will understand what the students mean, so it is still useful in real life. I am also encouraged that these lesson phases are useful and seem to be fun for students. After all, as was mentioned in the lesson, the material must be interesting, but the instruction and practice should be interesting too.
