Unit 1 explains what is expected of both learners and teachers in order to facilitate effective language learning. The teacher must utilize many roles and identify the learners? motivations, age, language level, culture, and more in order to accomplish effective language learning. For example, if the learners are young, then they will have shorter attention spans while songs are more effective. The teacher and student are in a mutual relationship: the teacher can be the most effective teacher ever, however, if a learner is not motivated, he or she will not get the most out of the class. If a teacher does not give effective instruction, then the learners suffer.
