Most of the older students I have taught over the years are usually not interested in any external testing, since they are not particularly motivated toward obtaining such certification. While they do like simple tests that allow creative freedom, such as in Section 3 or 4, their range and ability vary greatly class-to-class, so even diagnostic tests are difficult to apply to the whole of the group. The younger students I have taught are usually geared toward a testing standard that is used in their country, with levels that start typically lower than TOEFL or TOEIC. Nonetheless, they are familiar with the TOEIC, which they may approach toward their university years.
