This unit continues the exposition of English verb tenses with the past tenses, reviewing their forms and usages, common errors and trouble spots, as well as offering possible teaching ideas for each. The past simple tense expresses completed actions in the past. Its affirmative form uses the past participle (adding -ed or -d to the base verb for regular verbs), eg \"The ancient eaves creaked and shuddered beneath the battering of the summer storm.\" Its negative form adds the auxiliary verb \"did\" and the adverb \"not\" before the base form of the verb, eg \"They didn't realize the maple sap had over boiled until the carbonized goo began frothing over the pot's edge\
