This unit essentially covered what it means to be a good teacher and a good learner. As I have learned, if you are a good teacher, then you will have good learners. A good teacher maintains a number of roles, including managing the class, acting as a tutor, participant and model, among others. I have learned that involving yourself, as a teacher, in the lessons is very important; a student may lose interest or motivation if you are simply lecturing the entire class period. Involving the students is absolutely crucial. I have also learned the varying levels of English language learners, and the differences between them. For example, adult learners have higher attention spans and are there because they want to be, while younger learners are most likely learning English because it is a requirement. All ages have their advantages and disadvantages; while an adult learner may have a higher attention span, it may be more difficult for them to learn a new language because they are so used to both their own language and ways of learning. I have learned a great deal about what it means to be a good teacher, and what a good learner is, in this unit.
