This unit covered productive skills. This includes speaking and writing. Speaking includes accuracy and fluency. Accuracy should be the goal of the Study phase, and fluency ? speaking for communication, not accuracy ? should be emphasized in the Activate phase. Several possible classroom activities are suggested. Pair and group work can be used to get students speaking. It is important to give students enough time to prepare during their guided practices in their groups. Writing skills includes spelling, handwriting, layout, and punctuation. Students from cultures with writing styles very different from English may have more difficulty. Games can be used in the classroom to facilitate communication. There are many resources online as well as those listed in this section and in the introduction.
