Role of the TeacherI ask myself ?What do you think is the role of a teacher??. So here I start? One of the first places where children mould their behaviour and future educational success is in school and the teachers are the ones who bring either positive or negative attitudes to the classroom. That is why the first years of school are so critical. It is because this is when children learn the base of their educational life. This is why as teachers, they should try to love their career. This is so that they have the enthusiasm, to be able to motivate, and encourage their pupils, to want to be there to learn with them. They should have the right frame of mind, attitude, training and experience to provide a warm, encouraging, pleasant environment for the students to be able to be comfortable to learn in class. I feel that children from the age of two up to 16 need a lot of guidance and motivation and care. Children learn faster and better when they feel they are in a safe and happy environment/atmosphere. I feel that teachers somehow come into play as the second mothers for students between these ages because they spend a lot of time with our children. A really good teacher learns through many years of experience and training. The same goes for mothers. Mothers too, learn to be mothers through experience with their children. Mothers nurture their children by teaching them and giving them care, love, and respect. These are some of the things mothers try to provide for their children, and one of it is a safe and pleasant environment in their homes too. Now as mothers want the best for their children and one of their goals is to raise their children so they can succeed in life and hopefully be professionals or at least to end up comfortable in life. Teachers can try to adapt a bit of this role and attitude towards their students. Nurture students with knowledge. Now, throughout life I?ve had teachers who were horrible. At the tender age of 7, learning a new language in a new country, and the students were asked a question by the teacher. If we could not answer correctly, that teacher would bring us up to the front of the class and hit our hands with a wooden ruler! Basically embarrassing me in front of the whole class! This is thankfully banned in this day and age but it has been engraved into my brain. Throughout my schooling life it?s made me apprehensive to even try to answer a question in class. Fear was instilled for the very first day! I hope this never happens to anyone ever again in!?. After that, I?ve had some really great teachers too, who thankfully inspired me, who were approachable, encouraging, motivating and fun! They are the ones who got involved with teaching their students, talked to us, showed concern about what the students were feeling or needed and did not ridicule when we were wrong. Instead they encouraged and knew how to steer away the limelight of shame and shyness. As most students in a class are shy and sometimes don?t have the chance to get involved in the class or to participate, teachers should get these students involved in the class by asking questions nicely, praising when praise is due. After all, the way students act in class mirrors their teacher?s attitude toward them, same way it goes for parenting. Children mimic their parents. That is called a ?role model?. That is why it is very important for teachers to invite their students to participate as it will benefit their students. That is why a teacher?s attitude and approach is very important and critical in a classroom. The teacher like a mother should create a pleasant environment for their students but must maintain professional behaviour and outlook at all times. If students feel secure in the class, then usually, their results will be better. A teacher should bridge a mutual trust and rapport with each student. Teachers are responsible to know their students needs, weaknesses and strengths in the language and help them along. Teachers should always remember that students of different nationalities have different traditions, customs, cultures and backgrounds, which they will bring to the classroom. Teachers are learners too. Teachers, need to have guidance, research and need support too. The teacher?s priority should always be for their students to benefit and learn from their lesson. Although school is a place where we go to learn, I do feel that no matter the age, that there should be times where fun is part of the activities of motivational learning. To break the monotony of learning ,teachers should be encouraged to have fun with the students in class and participate with them sometimes too. So, Planning is a very important part of teaching. To know your students and to always be prepared for classes, by using lesson plans, materials and apparatus, as best you can, will help a lot. This will help lessons run more smoothly, keep the class in control and the teacher on track as to what you have and have not taught your students yet. This will also help you learn in what areas you can improve on your teaching skills. A teacher carries a big responsibility and role in class, and in society. Your students, the institution you work with, the parents and your society rely on you to educate their children. Everything a teacher says will bear an impact on the students now and in time to come. You are the guidance, motivation, nurturer and educationer. This applies to everyone and anyone that you teach, of all ages and walks of life, who is learning from you. Now that is a heavy load to bear! That is truly ?A Role Model and Role of The Teacher????
