This unit was centered around teaching the students to produce language through speaking and writing. By focusing on the effective communication of this language as opposed to forcing students to memorize complex grammar and punctuation rules, this unit developed a manner of teaching that would be very useful for students in the real world. While the specific rules of grammar have their place, ESL students, and therefore the courses teaching them, ought to focus on being understood. Certainly, this requires a grasp of grammar, but I believe that this unit did well to present material which prepares the prospective teacher to teach for understandable language production.
