This unit focused on ways to teach writing and speaking. I learned the difference between accuracy and fluency and how to teach them through different activities, either more controlled or more free depending on the focus. I also learned that students will be more successful if given more time to prepare in a group before presenting something to the class. Another valuable thing from this unit was that it caused me to think more deeply about how punctuation is so important in English but may not be in a student's native language. I think I desire to be more aware of students' backgrounds as they enter my classroom so I can better anticipate their view of learning English.
