This chapter reviews conditional forms and how to use reported speech. There are five main conditional forms in English, the zero conditional, the first conditional, the second conditional, the third conditional and the mixed conditional. The chapter also explains the difference between direct and indirect (reported) speech. Reported speech is when you try to describe what someone else has said. I learnt that reported speech is very complicated, and that sometimes maybe even I use it wrongly. In reported speech, who said what and when they said it is very important. It is crucial to backshift the time that the direct speech refers to.
