Unit 19 on teaching special groups starts out with a section on teaching beginners. Beginners are devided in different catagories and many tips are given on methodologie and techniques, possible problems and motivation. The following part on individual students outlines the advantages and disadvantages of this teaching group followed by suggestions to facilitate teaching an individual student and suitable activities. Under the heading 'teaching children' we see how the approach should be adapted to their needs and capacities. Even the classroom environment and the pace of the lessons have to be tailored to fit their needs. The importance of class discipline or management for young learners is also highlighted. Subsequently a number of useful comments as well as some don'ts to bear in mind are given. In the next segment on teaching business English or English for Specific Purposes (ESP), it is outlined who the students/clients are and how to plan a course with the help of a 'needs analisis'. A sample of such a 'needs analises' is provided followed by notes on things to be considered when teaching English to business people. The final part of unit 19 is on monolingual - and multilingual classes. Advantages and disadvantages of teaching these two groups are mentionend and finally suggestions are given on how to avoid the use of the mother tongue in the classroom. Studying this unit made me aware of the different needs different groups of students may have. I realize more and more the need for flexibility, good preparation and a sincere interest for the students.
