In the teaching- learning process both the teacher and students need materials to rely on. These can be either authentic materials, designed for native or advanced speakers (books, magazines, songs, movies) or created materials (especially created for those who are learning the target language and who are still in the process of learning). Authentic materials provide exposure to language as it is spoken by native speakers. They are more suitable for advanced learners, as they already master the language at a higher level. Beginners often feel discouraged and uninterested when exposed to such materials, as their level of language is much lower. Created materials are especially designed to suit the students? level and needs. Materials such as flashcards, crosswords, word search puzzles, pictures, board games, even course books are non- authentic resources, as they are also designed for or can be adapted to certain levels and follow certain curricula. Most teachers prefer using a course book, as its contents are already complying with the syllabus which is graded to a level suitable for the students. A course book also provides activities and exercises that help practice grammar and vocabulary. However, teachers should not use the course book exclusively, as classes would become predictable and boring. Course books can also be replaced or supplemented by other resource materials (board games, worksheets, board games, songs). A balanced use of the course book combined with other resources and materials is preferable in order to make classes attractive, enjoyable, efficient.
