This unit deals with specifics concerning teaching special groups. One such group is beginners although there are different types of beginners. These include: Absolute beginners - This is the type of language student who has no English at all. False beginner - This is the type of student who might have undergone English course but have not properly retained much of the language. Adult beginner ? an Adult beginner will probably be highly motivated to learn the English language since they have taken a decision to learn it. Young beginner - Young beginners tend to pick up new language more quickly than adult beginners but may lack motivation to learn English. Beginner without basic Roman alphabet - This type of English language student knows nothing about the language. I learned that my approach to working with beginner students should include the following: I would be aware of my student?s needs. I need to use clear language and giving simple instructions. I would motivate the students to speak English in the class room and avoid using their mother tongue. I should never attempt to do too much too quickly and make my aims realistic enough. I would be visual as much as possible. I would take good care of my board work. I would always use pair and group work. I would ask students lots of questions using class worksheets and random verbal means as well as home worksheets. I would revise constantly and bring in new ideas. I would focus on what is easy for the students and avoid what is difficult. I would respond to my students as individuals.
