Teach English in Guiyu Zhen - Shantou Shi

Unit 6: Video Lessons This unit showed two videos of lessons with Thai adult students. The first lesson saw a rather pompous and arrogant teacher who was not happy and had a bad eir about him, he was rude and a little demeaning when correcting students which he was quick to do, and scowled the whole time. His interest in the class was low, he looked like he wanted to be somewhere else. As a result the class was quite stagnant and the energy level was low. Jargon tearms were also used that no one understands, it was confusing. During the second lesson the same teacher greeted the same students friendily, asked their names and to write them down. Engaged his students with a discussion of animals, he had them study by writing down the animals, and then activated by having examples given which he wrote on the board. The students were happy, involved, and excited to participate, the energy level was high. The students learned and contributed. The teacher added to the list of animals with a few new examples and asked, do you have these in Thailand? do you know of the otter? What is the long necked bird in Africa? What is an American crocodile called? Drilling of; can and can't was also done, this was then applied to the discussion of the animals, what can or can't these animals do? High student participation, laughing, joking etc. The teacher then showed an imaginary animal he made, and asked the students to then do the same. The imaginary animals were then presented along with a discussion of what they could and could't do, further reinforcing the modal, could, couldn't. The lesson followed a patchwork phase formation and went over very well.
