Teach English in Fengxiang Jiedao - Shantou Shi

This unit has helped me to prepare on my first steps for becoming a teacher. I understand the qualities expected to being a good teacher. Students need a teacher who is kind, patient, and knowlegable. This will give the student confidence to ask questions and be comfortable to make mistakes and learn from them. I know the difference now on knowing your audience and adapting teaching methods according to the students age and culture. Adult learners will be already motivated as they have chosen to learn for specific reasons. They will have longer attention spans and you will be able to dicuss topics and explain there reasons. They will however have higher expectations as have been taught subjects before. Young learners need more motivation due to shorter attention spans. They themselves have not chosen to learn english so the classes need to be more entertaining to keep them more motivated. Classes will be more visual and can be more fun, you will also be able to see the progress quicker. I now know the language ability levels. I also know what motivates a student. I can now see the important roles a teacher plays such as being a manager,a good leader can inspire and motivate. A prompter, students need to be able to solve answers themselves and process the language. An organiser, a well planned lesson can mean more learning time. A facilitator, give students activities to learn by themselves. An assesor, to see students progress and help with any weaknesses. I can see how important it is to have a good balance between taking contol of a lesson and allowing the students to learn in a group or by theiselves with guidance. With this in mind im ready to move forward.
