It gives us a secure base from which we can project to our class the impression that we are organized and that we know what we are doing. It takes lot of thinking and practice to hone this skill, and it won't happen overnight, but it is a skill that will help to define us as a teacher. Lesson planning also help new or inexperienced teachers organize content, materials, and methods. Like most skills, we get better at it the more we do it and think of different ways of improving our planning and teaching based on feedback from students. When lesson plans have been well thought out and prepared in advance, lessons will go much more smoothly and it will be easier for students to achieve the goals of the lesson.
