From this course, I have learned that it is important to be a confident teacher who can relate to the students and establish a good rapport with them. It is also important to be collected (i.e., not lose temper with younger learners) and entertaining (fun classes equates to learning). Another major lesson I've learned from this course is how important it is to understand the english language, it's grammar, idiosyncrasies, etc in a manner that can be expressed (and therefore) taught to the students. Even though, it been a few years since I have studied grammar (also hardly any of the grammar taught in this course were formally taught to me) it's amazing how much of it comes naturally through speaking. Even though I know how to speak (and for the most part write) the language, knowing the how and the why will help when teaching it to others (I imagine do as I say not as I do doesn't work so well in a classroom). Overall, the course has laid the foundation for a career as a TEFL teacher and instilled the confidence in me so that I won't go into a classroom feeling like I haven't the slightest clue what I am doing (or going in unprepared, without a lesson plan (although writing them became extremely tedious), etc).
