The unit gives an overview of course books and states their advantages and disadvantages comparing them to authentic materials like newspapers, songs, videos and self-prepared materials like crosswords, flashcards, gap-fill activities etc. It also advises how to combine them to achieve the best result and provides a few rather interesting samples of classroom activities. Reading this unit was useful for me because I?d always hesitated which way of teaching to choose and this article made it clear for me, that there?s no universal solution and teaching materials are to be adapted to specific groups of students and their needs.
