Unit 8 Summary ? Future Tenses There are 7 forms of future tenses in the English language. Future Simple, Future Continuous, Future Perfect, Future Perfect Continuous, ?Be Going? Future, Present Simple for Future tense, and Present Continuous for Future. Future simple is formed by adding ?will? + ?base verb? after the subject. It?s most common usages are for stating future facts, predictions, promises, threats, and speculations. The future continuous tense is formed by adding ?will? + ?be? + verb (-ing form) after the subject. It is used to say about a progressive action at a particular moment in the future. The future perfect tense is formed by adding ?will? + ?have? + verb (past participle form) after the subject. It is used to say something will have have been completed at a particular time in the future. The future perfect continuous is formed by adding ?will? + ?have? + ?been? + verb (-ing form) after the subject. It is used to say how long something will have continued by a certain time in the future. The ?be going? + infinitive is a future tense that is used to state intentions, plans, and predictions based on present evidence. The present simple as future tense is formed just like the present simple tense but differs in usage. This is used in future tense to describe timetables and schedules. The present continuous is used in future tense to state future definite appointments. The common student errors/mistakes in the use of future tense is in the structure. The difference in verb tenses should be clarified to avoid these mistakes in structures.
