Conditionals are sentences using \"if\" that indicate the possibility of a present, past, or future situation. There are two clauses: the \"if\" clause, which contains the condition that needs to be met, and the main clause, which expressed the consequence from the action/state that is realised. There are 5 types of conditionals. The easiest to recognise is the Zero Conditional, because the form is simply \"if/when\" plus present tense, equates to a true consequence in the present tense. I feel teaching this conditional is easiest because of the direct action and consequence that derive from its fact-based usage. The First Conditional is always somewhat easier to teach because a professor can create many fun games and written activities for practice with this. As it contains the use of the present simple tense, students will be able to grasp the form of this conditional because they will recognise that from previous lecture content. The Second, Third, and Mixed Conditionals are more difficult and educators may need to take more time working with students to ensure their understanding of the material. Direct and reported speech is something even I, as a native English speaker, find difficult at times. The chart in the lesson made it easier to understand when changes are made from direct speech to reported speech, and upon studying the chart, I found it became easier to memorise which tense changes and which remain the same. For teaching this content, I feel the best method would be the media interview, to give students a fun activity that also encourages understanding on how reported speech is formed. This type of game would be useful because it also could include the time expressions for students to practice as well.
