This unit gave an explanation of the various future tenses, their formations, and their uses similar to the previous units covering past and present tenses. Future tenses are easily the most complicated tenses in English, evidenced by the sheer number of them compared to past and present tense, and the fact three of them are identical in form to present tense, but with completely different use and meaning. You would be hard-pressed to find a native English speaker who can explain future tenses completely without explicitly studying them themselves: indeed many English speakers are under the impression English has no future tense, a point widely argued among linguists due to future tense in English have no conjugation, as opposed to past and present tenses. The explanations for future tenses in this unit therefore give a good foundation for explaining future tenses and their uses to ESL learners.
