Unit 15 provides an overview of the various types of testing and evaluation tools that a teacher can use to measure students' language skills. It looks at several ways of assessing students' language levels and progress at different stages in an English language course (including before and after the course), such as tutorials, evaluation by the students, and tests. Testing and evaluation also serve to identify the students' individual strengths and weaknesses in all four skills (speaking, reading, writing and listening). I found the section on tests to be wide-ranging and highly informative. There are different tests that are commonly used to measure a student's current language level, such as placement, diagnostic, progress, achievement, or proficiency tests. In addition, there are a number of formal or external exams such as TOEFL and Cambridge ESOL that teachers may need to prepare their students for.
