This unit covered the more common issues and difficulties that can spring up within the classroom during the teaching process. The unit taught me the importance of establishing rapport with a new class and how the first lesson with a new class should not focus on the use of the course book, but instead make use of activities that help the teacher determine the students needs and set a overall tone for the rest of the course. The unit also gave advice on a wide range of potential problems encountered such students being reluctant to participate in class, involving students in classes containing a particularly large number of students and students potentially falling into the bad habit of using there native language in class. The unit taught me some techniques on how to overcome/minimise these problems and more importantly pre-emptive measure that can help prevent some, if not all of these problems arising.
