This lesson covered several different methodologies of teaching English, as well as ESA lesson structures. Before going into this lesson, I did not know the different ways of teaching and the benefits or reasoning behind each strategy. I learned that there are different ways of going about lessons depending on the level of the class. For example, at a more advanced level, using class-wide debates is a way of guiding or examining the class's language abilities in a constructive way. Also, the different lesson types such as Straight Arrow or Boomerang are important ways of tailoring lessons towards different levels. I did not know the importance of an Engage stage of a lesson, as that is the time in which a teacher can gauge what the students already know, and what to cover during the Study stage. In many language classes growing up, we jumped right to the Activate stage, and it was not a very useful way of learning foreign languages.
