In this unit the potential dynamics and flow of a typical class come into view. The nine different methodologies explained are all potential approaches and strategies for teaching language and how students can learn language. More than likely a typical class would consist of a mix of these methodologies appropriate to the lesson goal and level of the students. Next we approached lesson planning and the three most important and effective parts of a lesson. The first, and which should be done at the beginning of every lesson is Engage. Initially engaging students gets them involved and interested in class and activates their brains for the language learning that will happen later. This should involve something fun to get everyone talking. The next part, which can be done directly after Engage or later is Study. During Study the students learn the new content for that lesson and the Teacher can elicit, present, or even drill for comprehension and practice. The students may also practice the new point through exercises like worksheets where they can reinforce what it is they have just learned and have an opportunity to use previous content. Lastly is Activate where the students use the new content of the lesson! This can be done ins so many ways from pair work and interviews, to class or group work with survey's and games or even acting. No matted what your final lesson plans look like it's important to have a goal for the lesson, start by Engaging the students for the lesson, Study the new content, and use the new content through Activation. Teachers must also play an important role in encouraging students and helping them find confidence in their language abilities while also guiding towards proper usage. It is important to make corrections and listen/look for errors but it's also important to encourage usage and build their confidence.
