ITTT offers a wide variety of Online TEFL Courses and a great number of opportunities for English Teachers and for Teachers of English as a Second Language.

Common problem situations may include: first lessons, different levels, large classes, use of native language, reluctant students, and difficulties with listening texts. Classes fall into two categories: new group, where students don?t know each other and need to establish rapport between each other; and existing group, where students already likely know each other and are familiar with EFL teaching. First lessons should include activities that achieve the following: establish rapport between the students and also between the teacher and class; and find out about the students? interests, needs, and English level. These can be done via questionnaire, ?tell us about? game, pass the ball game, or needs analysis. Some ways to deal with a group of students with varying levels are: using different materials, using the same materials but different tasks to different students, or pairing stronger students with weaker ones. Ways to deal with a large class are: worksheets, pair/group work, clarity, choral repetition, appoint group leaders, and dynamics. To prevent use of native language in the class, teachers can: make sure activities are at an appropriate level, ensure explanations are clear, encourage the use of English, and to respond only in English. To encourage reluctant students, teachers can use a lot of pair work, controlled practice, or role-play. I learned that there are a variety of issues that may present itself during a class and each should be responded to with carefully consideration and individually. Classes vary by students, levels, and backgrounds so one lesson plan does not fit all. It's important to be aware of how the students are feeling-- unmotivated, bored, confused, etc. This can help the teacher tweak the lesson to better fit the students in interests and motivation, which ultimately will benefit their language studies.
