In this unit, I have learned on how to be a good teacher and learned about my learner. I?ve learned that being a good teacher, not only that I need to love what I am doing, kind and patient, having a good subject about the knowledge, and be a motivator, but I also have to be fair to all learners and care about my learners? needs and wants. It is also important to know my learner?s cultural background, age, and language level for me to create an appropriate lesson plan. The lesson plan needs to be age and level appropriate to my learner. This is because a good teacher is a model for the learner, and learner expects the teacher to have a good knowledge of the subject or else it will be hard for the learner to learn from a teacher. Other than the characteristics of being a good teacher and learned about my learner, I also learned about the role of a teacher. There is nine role that a teacher needs to play to be a good teacher. The ten role of teachers is manager or controller, organizer, assessor, prompter, participant, tutor, facilitator, observer or monitor, and model. A good teacher needs to know when and how to play this role to help the learner?s success. Apart from knowing when and which role to play during the lesson plan, teachers need to learn about the learner?s background as well. Teachers need to know how to work around to make a good learner. Teachers need to aware of the language level, learning experience, motivation, behavior problems, cultural background, and language awareness. Once the teacher knows the background of a learner, it will make the whole teaching and learning process more effective. In conclusion, I?ve learned that the relationships between teachers and learners are very important. A good caring, sensitive, motivated, fair, fun, and good subject knowledge teacher will most likely lead to a success of a learner.
