This unit talks about the course books and material usage. I learned that even though schools provide course books for students but then most of the time teachers also provide supplement materials or created materials that are usually needed to reinforce a language point. The most common created materials among others include but not limited to crosswords, Word search puzzles, role-play cards, flashcards, gap fill activities and picture stories. I have also learned about the what course books entails, such as cassettes, workbook, teacher's book etc. In addition I also learned about the advantages of a course book which among others is that it provides security for students and teachers as well, it is usually attractive and appealing to the eye, this in most cases if it has a good and attractive design in addition to that it also provides a syllabus which is graded to the level of the students. Furthermore I also leaned about the disadvantage of the course book, which among other disadvantages is that it does not always fit to all the needs and interest of all the class members, secondly depending exclusive use of a course book can be very predictable and can make the students feel boring about it, thirdly course books usually state what should be taught and this most of the time prevents teachers analyzing particular problems that their students may face there by preventing the lesson from been student centered. The lesson also availed me the opportunity to learned about the four options for course book usage, which are omit, replace, supplement and adapt. In conclusion I also learned that if a teacher choses the course book he / she should consider some points, which among them is the price of the material, availability, the design, methodology the topic as well as the skills among others. These are very relevant factors which can go a long way in helping a teacher who opts for a course book.
