This lesson was about Speaking and Writing. One of the most difficult aspects of any language is speaking. Many students are apprehensive to speak for a number reasons like lack of confidence, peers, fear of making mistakes, and cultural reasons. I have taught in South Korea for 7 years and I really believe culture is a reason students are afraid to speak. In Korea if you make a mistake in front of the class you lose face. You can do many things to try to get students to speak such as pair work, group work, and constantly changing the classroom dynamic. I think another way to get students to speak is by choosing interesting topics that spark debate. Writing I think is a skill that is not often taught and neglected. As a Teacher I have never really taught writing, and it seems to not be important in Korea. The focus on student learning seems to be Reading, Speaking, and Listening. What i found interesting about this section is how handwriting is sometimes neglected. When learning a new language teachers should work with students about how to form the letters correctly. If this is not done this could have a bad effect on the student, and discourage them from writing in the future.
